The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny Defend (ADD) strategy developed by The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Learn the basics of personal safety. In this class we will discuss Risk Awareness, Risk Reduction, Risk Recognition and Risk Avoidance. These 4 topics cover 90% of self-defense education. When put into practice, these tips and techniques will greatly reduce the chance that a person might find themselves in a situation where they need to use physical force to defend themselves.
During this workshop, participants will learn the basic manual Alphabet in American Sign Language and they will learn a few conversational signs (including how to introduce him/herself to a Deaf person). In addition, participants will learn about the norms of the Deaf culture and also how it differs from the hearing culture.
The workshop presenter is an oral Deaf person (also an American Sign Language professor at Buffalo State) who is open to any questions from workshop attendees to help them learn more about Deaf people and American Sign Language as a whole. A panel discussion centered on the partnership between Buffalo State College (Center for Urban and Rural Education) and Buffalo Public School, Middle Early College High School and the creation of the MEC Academic Support and Tutoring Center. We will discuss the history of the partnership and our current research-based practices. Also, we will offer insights to teaching high school students while preparing them for college-level coursework.

You will learn about what essential oils are, where they come from, why all essential oils are not created equally, and modern ways to incorporate them into your daily life. This class is for anyone curious about essential oils and the health benefits they offer. Participants will work from a plaster bust to create a 2D drawing in Charcoal on charcoal toned paper. a live demo will be given and participants will be instructed on the basics of charcoal. Class will be

I will discuss their two thousand mile flight, their appearance, nesting habits, feeding, food scavenging, reproduction, idiosyncrasies, folk-lore and legends, children’s stories, books and plays, stork villages, superstitions and beliefs, their service to the farmer, what their first appearance in the spring foretells and how they are treated in the towns and villages they chose to inhabit.

Description: Many people find it difficult to discuss their wishes for care if they are seriously ill, dying, or unable to make choices themselves. Many people also find it hard to listen to the wishes of others.
This workshop gives participants a way to start thinking and talking about the topic. Participants learn more about issues related to health care proxies and living wills, and they receive a booklet with the necessary forms. Topics include how to choose a health care proxy, steps to completing (or helping others complete) a health care proxy, and important information that should be included in a living will.
The MOLST form, a relatively new form in New York State, is generally for patients with serious health conditions. This workshop will include a brief description of that form.

The Students of Concern Care Team intervenes to provide support for students who raise concern about their potential for harm to themselves or others. The Care Team will assess the potential risk to personal and campus safety that might result from the actions of individual students, will connect students in need with appropriate resources and will monitor compliance with required support plans. Join us at this session to hear more about how the Care Team operates and how we can work together to assure our students are being supported in times of crisis.
Come and learn how the basic "rules" of stage improvisation can be applied to your career. Topics like "Yes, and," making and taking offers, listening, and creativity will all be discussed. We will also be engaging in some theater games to reinforce these ideas. Taught by Todd Benzin, a graduate of the Second City Improv Conservatory in Toronto and a professional improviser for over 20 years.
Although PowerPoint slides are used, we'll have an active discussion about the policies that regulate information security in the context of our individual roles in our own information security, and information security on campus. Of course we'll also talk about good practices, and resources for information security.
